You enter an exclusive club when you buy a Jeep. You are now the proud owner of the most legendary off-road vehicle in history. Whether you're new to off-roading or a seasoned vet with a highly customized Jeep, here are a few trails you should check out near Mishawaka, IN.
Crumstown Trails
A great place to start off-roading life or test your skills, Crumstown Trails in South Bend is a 40-acre off-road park with trails, mud pits, sand, and more. Open on Saturdays and Sundays, and some long holiday weekends, they have a little bit of everything for everyone. They do require DOT-approved helmets and are cash only, so plan accordingly. Easy access from Plymouth or Goshen.
Silver Lake Sand Dunes
Right on the coast of Lake Michigan, a few hours north of Mishawaka, the only thing better than the view is the trials. Silver Lake offers over 450 acres of land to cross, from beginner trails to steep dunes that challenge pros. Send up a few rooster tails of sand and have fun. Just make sure you don't leave your tow strap in Michigan City in case you dig in.
Interlake OHV Trail
This fun 19-mile loop about five hours from Elkhart is set on nearly 3,550 acres of land with plenty to explore. With hunting, fishing, and mountain biking also available, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Trails are open from sunrise to sunset and require an annual pass to enter the park; a daily trail pass or annual off-road pass is required to drive the trails. A great weekend trip from La Porte.
Redbird Off-Road State Recreation Area
With four trials eligible for Jeep's Badge of Honor, Redbird will be fun for anyone from Granger or Niles. Based around the Redbird Coal Mine, this 1,400-acre park uses the unique terrain of the reclaimed mine to add adventure to your weekend. There are plenty of picnic areas to make a day of it. Passes are the same as Interlake, so you have more fun at the same price.
